One set is in my daughters house and I have the second second set in a rent house, The new set is in my main residence. What more can I say other than they are so good I have bought three sets.

I threw the original freezer unit that was purchased new and installed in Mar '15 into the garbage dump last week after we had to buy a replacement unit. We would have bought another brand, but we were unable to locate a unit with the same dimensions to fit the built- in space. To note, we also had to replace the matching fridge unit in Feb. '19 after 7 or 8 repairs failed to resolve the daily operating problems that began a year after the original install date (Mar '15).
These units are expensive and have proven to be totally unreliable. Nearly $4,000 into the dump and another $3,800 for replacements. Not including service calls and replacement parts. I'm not sure how difficult it is to design and build these units and transition refrigeration concepts, however, I am sure that the necessary skillsets do not reside within the Whirlpool organization.
What is the environmental footprint and impact of these units with a life cycle of less than 4 years?
Why would you want photos added to see me throwing this unit off of the back of my truck into the garbage dump? While slightly amusing, it's disgusting. One lemon? Maybe. Two? Highly unlikely. I'm sure that we're not the only "victims" who purchased these models and experienced the same problems.
The e- mail address is below if you're interested in explaining your units' performance issues and refunding or offsetting the replacement costs. Mind you, there was no contact when I posted the review earlier in the spring for the replacement fridge unit.

I bought this when my old all fridge died (RIP). As we had designed our kitchen with room for an all fridge and an all freezer, I had no choice but to replace with the same. This is a smart design, shelves placed to create extra room. Quiet, easy to move and set in place, nice to look at and so far, easy to clean. It was a great
choice. One thing that I would have liked is a small shelf for ice trays-just my opinion.

We have had this freezer for a couple months in our Church Community Food Pantry and it is just right for the size of our operation. The Fast Freeze is a definite plus. The unit works perfectly and we have had no issues with it. We would highly recommend it.

I have ordered the freezer and refrigerator almost 3 months ago. The fridge was fine. I am on the 4th freezer that comes in dented and scratched all over the front of the door. Horrible customer service just keep sending damaged products when I have to take off work. Horrible trying to get a good product.

A follow up to my husbands (BVOH) review of a week ago (as they won't let the same person post twice or revise a recent review):
Given the other recent poor reviews and the attempt by CA social care to reach out to those people, I had expected that someone from customer service might try reach out. Instead, the response from customer service was a form response saying "Your concerns will be documented in an appropriate manner." I'm not sure what that means, but it surely doesn't help, especially as I already am having a service call today to fix the new freezer that I just bought.

The concept is great- having a full freezer on one side and a full refrigerator on the other gives plenty of storage space. However, the execution leaves a lot to be desired as the quality of the freezer has been poor. I am now on my 3rd sidekick freezer since 2005. The first one had to be repaired a few times and I finally had to replace it in 2014. Since they had changed the design, I also had to buy a refrigerator (even though it was working fine) to have a matching set. Now the freezer I bought in 2014 failed and had to be replaced. While the current model looks similar on the website, now that it was delivered today, I see that it is different enough (handle and venting at the bottom slightly different) to be noticeable. Now I'm back in the same boat- have to live with an unmatched set or pay another $1000+ to replace a perfectly good refrigerator. It gets 1.5 stars because the idea is great, otherwise it would be 1 star.

I bought this fridge 4 years ago from Sears --- it has broken 3 times in these 4 years. Once it broke the first time I elected to pay 200$ for the extended warranty through Sears. Sears is no longer around and Whirlpool doesn't stand by their product at all.
I own rental properties and when I had an LG fridge break after 5 years, LG offered an extended warranty plan. Whirlpool on the other hand offers nothing, even though their product was defective within 18 months of purchasing it.
Worst company ever! Do not buy this Refrigerator. I will never buy Whirlpool again.

Looks great, but they certainly aren't built to last more than 3 years! Had problems with first set, and because their sizing does not conform to other makes and models we purchased another set, even though we only needed a fridge, that is, Whirlpool changed their model so they didn't match and was forced to purchase the freezer. Now only 3 years later, the compressor has died and with parts and labor doesn't make sense to fix. STAY AWAY!

I bought this freezer after my old freezer of 24 years finally gave out. So far, I'm satisfied. It works as it should, is relatively quiet and has a nice aesthetic. I find the seal around the door isn't strong but as I say so far it's doing it's job so I have no complaints and it's wirking as it should.

I loved these 13 years ago when I bought them. Designed my whole kitchen around them. They worked great and stored tons. A much better idea than the high end built ins. Then the fridge went out and had to buy a whole new set. Am sorely disappointed in the new models. Lots of wasted space on the doors for both fridge and freezer. Who needs 4 veg bins?? Super plasticy ice tray for freezer. Would have never bought these again buy have to unless redesign kitchen. These are such a great idea, Whirlpool, why did you ruin them???

We read the terrible reviews prior to buying these pcs of junk, However, the Sidekicks are the only thing that fits the hole. Started having problems a year after purchased 1/2014. Replaced 2 timers, one thermostat and constantly filling with Freon and stop leak. We can buy new, cheaper then fixing the old junk. FINALLY GIVEN UP. We bought the Whirlpool sidekicks when we renovated our kitchen 3 years ago. We have had nothing but issues with the freezer unit, requiring multiple visits from the appliance repair shop. After replacing the evaporator and repairing leaks 3 times, they took it to their shop to attempt to repair. We are now told it must have an internal leak and cannot be repaired. We've lost the cost of the freezer, $1000 in repair bills and all the food we lost everytime the unit broke down. In contacting whirlpool today, they don't have any reports of issues (even though there are countless similar complaints provided) and did not take any responsibility for manufacturing a poor quality product. Do not purchase this product!!!! Something is seriously wrong when units that are less than 3 years old can't be repaired!!

I the defrost timmer messed up twice in the first year I had it. I have only had this freezer for 4 years and now it is unfixable, it has an internal leak. I got the matching fridge at the same time and have also had to pay to have it fixed as well.

We are still awaiting a fix on the ice maker. We were told it was on back order. This is a replacement of a 15 year old same model. Although the outside dimensions are the same we had to restructure the walls so that the door would open fully.

I wish I had listened to all the other reviewers, but I was captured by the look of these in a friend's kitchen and figured there's no way it could be this bad. Like many others, I have designed the kitchen with these specific dimensions, and am stuck on this path. Problem one: The opening measurements in the installation instructions DO NOT include enough space to actually open the door. You can not install the freezer or refrigerator at the end of a run of counters and against a wall. You need to add about 3" of additional clearance. We found this out AFTER installing $10,000 of custom cabinets and $3000 of custom granite.... Problem two: Freezer didn't work from the second I plugged it in. This is of course discovered AFTER installing the ice maker, and AFTER modifying the cupboards, and because of construction delays, 4 months after the unit was delivered. Seller says it's Whirlpool's problem, Tech says it is an internal leak common to the units, and that it is not repairable, Whirpool saying I waited to long, and that their warranty doesn't cover replacement, only repair. We'll see how this ends, but right now, I'm unhappy and don't have a freezer. I also have a trim kit that I can't use, and can't return because I needed three pieces of the kit.

After having units for 3 years and 7 months being told repair was going to be $900. I decided to replace the freezer. To my surprise / disappointment the door does not match my old fridge. Facing having to replace fridge I found with some modifications the old door will fit on the new freezer. It was pretty obvious that the design changes were not needed since mostly cosmetic.

My wife and I recently bought a house and purchased the refrigerator and freezer sidekick combo. Within the first year the refrigerator had to be repaired 2x. Here we are now at year 2.5 and my freezer has now stopped working and the part needed to repair it is discontinued. Luckily a few months back I purchased an extended warranty because the insurance company called me last week to let me know that I am being given about half the value of my freezer back and that I am going to need to purchase a new freezer. We have been very displeased with the Whirlpool sidekicks that we purchased 2.5 years ago to say the least.

My Husband and I renovated our home last year and purchased this refrigerator/ freezer. At 8 months old, the freezer began malfunctioning. The freezer breaker was re-set and the temperature settings were changed, however, the food inside continued to melt. I contacted Whirlpool who could not find a repair company until SIX days later. Given the delay, Whirlpool made no effort to replace the freezer sooner, expedite a repair, nor compensate me for any of our lost food, which was hundreds of dollars ( I am a small food business owner). TO BOOT, one company come out and told me the machine was working properly. It wasn't until I (homeowner) contacted a SECOND repair company, did we learn about a recall on a piece that regulated temperature. Thank goodness for that or we would have had to buy a NEW freezer. Whirlpool you were NO help at all and totally mishandled the situation.

It keeps thing cold and looks nice. It fits in my custom designed kitchen. It replaced a previous Whirlpool that leaked constantly and continually had a large amount of ice accumulating below the bottom rack. Nothing else fit in the kitchen without paying thousands to have cabinets and counter redesigned to fit new appliance. The new configuration is NOT good. Fewer shelves on the door. I liked the shelves to hold butter, boxes and plastic containers of vegetables. You added a bin and removed a shelf. Bins are terrible. I am constantly shuffling things to find what I want. I like things neat and stacked not thrown in bins. We are a family of chefs (graduated from culinary school) .

At this moment, I am waiting for a repairman for my freezer - for the second time.I bought both the refrigerator and freezer w/icemaker and they were installed on Sept 7 2016 to replace two leaking sidekicks which were about 10 years old. No other fridge/freezer will fit in the space they were in. They look very attractive.But the ice maker stopped working about a week after installation. The repairman installed a new ice maker on Sep 23 2016. It began leaking about a week later. So today on Oct 10 2016 I am waiting for the ice maker to be repaired (probably replaced) again.Not a quality product in my book. I would definitely buy something a different fridge/freezer except that I'd have to remodel my entire kitchen. After spending thousands of dollars on new appliances, it's very sad that they are so poorly made.
